Merida's Makeover

Okay, I literally do not get into the news at all. But when I saw this on TV, I had to look it up.

So apparently mothers as well as others are mad at Disney for giving Merida a makeover. Personally, at first I thought she just got a new dress or something, but then i saw this: [link]

Okay, what?! Look I'm not mad at the dress part; I think it's cute. Nor am I mad about her hair getting more of a styled mane. It's her physical features that piss me off. It was like she got a boob job, a tummy tuck, and some face wok of some kind because her eyes look more narrow to me.

Here's a comparison of old and new her for you to get what I mean: [link]

That's why people are irritated about it. I agree that they went a little too far. The new dress and hair styling is fine but it's all that makeup and new curvy body that confuses me. I mean is that the new Disney goal: Sexify all the princesses for marketing. That's the only explanation I can come up with.

What's interesting is this isn't the 1st time it happened. Have you picked up a disney card at Walmart or Target or anywhere? These are how the Disney princesses are marketed more so now: [link] versus old them: [link]

Some are the same like Tiana and Rapunzel but look at Belle's hair and look at blinged out Pochantas. Really? What? Ok....

I think the reason Merida's makeover is such a big deal is because she's so new plus it doesn't fit her character at all. I mean, in Brave she is at her most miserable in the movie when she has to dress up and act all perfect princessy! It doesn't make sense that she would be so open to this plastic surgery change and makeup overload. In other words, the Marketing executives forced her into it. They are so into gaining money that they are neglecting to consider the personalities these princesses have an stand for. Merida was one who was more tomboy and focused on being independent than she was being princessy. She's also the first who expresses negative emotions towards being a princess. now, she's so friggin princessy with sparkles and makeup and btw, noticed she is no longer pictured with her signature bow and arrow.

Awh well. I honestly don't care if the princesses get new looks or whatever, but I wish the Disney company remembers that even though these princesses are noticed for their beauty it is their personalities that gain them respect. Or at least in Cinderella, Aurora, and Snow White's case for me, the fun characters they get to be friends with.

Well, I'm shutting up. Byes! :XD:
